Saturday Abel was home and he and Ruth came upstairs and
spent a couple hours chatting with us,
first about the robbery and then onto many other topics- how they met, what
Abel’s job is like, raising kids, etc. It was refreshing to visit with them and
get to know them better. Abel took the screen and had it repaired. He also
installed a big motion activated floodlight on one side of the house. He’s also
having burglar bars put on all the windows upstairs. Add those things to our
motion sensors inside which are also controlling all the outside lights and
dark curtains Abel put over the doors to limit visibility in the house at
night- things are feeling pretty safe. This is his week off so he will be
around, which only makes things better. Abel also brought us some lobster
tails! I’d never cooked them before so Ruth helped me and they turned out soooo
good! Yum!

God led us to a wonderful church here! We’ve been going to
Shining Light Baptist Church for the last two Sundays. Pastor Mike and his wife
Michelle have 6 kids and have been living in Belize for a year. The
congregation is about 50 people and kids. The church building is in the process
of being built, so right now it has a roof and half walls and a cement floor with
pews. The entire service is run off a small generator that powers a pulpit
microphone, iphone speakers, and a keyboard the Michelle plays. It’s simple,
but so wonderful. The Word is preached powerfully here and we’re loving being
in a house of worship again, surrounded by God’s people. We had lunch with
Michelle and her daughters, two of whom are near Jonathan’s age. The boys loved
running around and playing with other kids- for the first time since we left
Arizona! Michelle also blessed us with a bunch of limes and told me how to make
limeade (turned out really good). She also told us that we can make our own
pineapple juice by boiling the pineapple peel (also turned out really tasty!).
Kris stopped by a bakery here in Santa Elena and brought home all kinds of
goodies: donuts, sweet bread, pastries, and these ham, cheese & jalapeño
things- everything was soooo delicious!

Kris took the car to a mechanic in Spanish Lookout (referral
from a friend), we were told he was $40BZ/hr. The car had been lugging and Kris
just wanted to have it checked out and tuned up... and for $20US/hr, why not!!
Turned out that Kris got to meet the owner of the garage, Mr. Wolfe who rode
around in the ‘Burb with Kris for an hour and figured out the problem and
repaired it. He also checked the transmission, sparkplugs, wires, and the rear
differential that we thought might be leaking- all was well. So after and hr with
the boss Kris went to pay and Mr. Wolfe told the cashier that the charge would
be $35 including tax.... so it only ended up costing us $17.50!! Thank you
Lord!!
