10/3/11 Day 2 Buckeye, AZ to Lordsburg, NM, 308 miles

Did you know it is hot in Phoenix even at 8am!!! That’s when we started loading up the car and I couldn’t believe it was so hot already! The boys were disappointed that we couldn’t take the time to swim in the motel’s pool, but we had to backtrack a bit to Buckeye before heading on our way. Lowell helped Kris adjust the timing on the Suburban (I guess it was off a bit, I don’t understand these things)- they thought it might help our gas mileage. We stopped by Super Walmart and got some food for the ice chest and a locking gas cap (to replace the one we found and used yesterday at the truck stop). Kris and Lowell worked on the Suburban for about and hour and then we rolled out of Buckeye around 1:30pm. Thanks Lowell so much for all your help! The car is running a lot smoother today!

We did make it into New Mexico! We decided that we are definitely not Arizona people… the dry constant heat… no thanks! We were really thankful for air conditioning! The drive was flat… flat… flat! We did see some beautiful mountain ranges but our pictures didn’t turn out so well (I guess taking pictures from a car going 70mph doesn’t get you the best of pictures). But the sunset was magnificent! The colors were so beautifully painted across the sky, thank you Lord! And the way the mountains reflected the sunset, they turned bright pink! Aaron loved looking at the mountains, he kept saying, “Mommy, I need to climb that mountain!” We thought we might make it as far as Las Cruces New Mexico, but that was not to be. Around 7pm we stopped in a small town called Lordsburg, NM. Not a whole lot going on in that town, but we found a great hotel and settled in for the night. The highlight of the day was certainly the hotel pool! Even though it took us until nearly 9:30pm to have dinner (Subway Sandwiches for
Aaron splashing around
Kris and I and chicken nuggets, peaches, bananas, and pretzels for the boys) and then get all our stuff into our hotel room… we let the boys go swimming. They sure had a blast. With both boys wearing water wings, they could move all around the pool on their own! Thankfully the pool was isolated from all hotel rooms because the boys were pretty loud, letting out all that pent up energy.
So we only drove about 5 hrs today, which was a bit disappointing, but we’re hoping to leave early tomorrow and get into Texas!!

  2. Alice, thanks for following us! No these Trents are not related to Tammy. They are Lowell and Rani Trent, she is my best friend from high school. I'll tell the boys hi for you.
