We finished off the pineapple and banana bread that we’d brought from Belize for breakfast and were on the road by 9am. Kris had spent some time on line researching toll roads, hoping to expedite our time on the roads. It seemed to be working. We went through Cuidad del Carmen and saw an Applebees! We have a gift card to Applebees but I was pretty sure they wouldn’t accept it there! We also saw a helicopter and a Walmart! The things we get excited about these days!

We stopped and had lunch at a little roadside taqueria for $5.54US and then went through Villahermosa. Thankfully we didn’t get lost! We stopped for dinner at another roadside restaurant run by an entire family. We had meat empanadas for $3.08US and they were fantastic! We had fun trying to talk to them and they loved watching the boys and hearing them speak the little Spanish they know- Gracias (thank you), adios (goodbye), and a few other phrases. We wanted to make it to Poza Rica, but it just got too late. We stopped in a little town called Rancho El Rosario and found a hotel around 10pm. Kris had a hard time waking the clerk up, but he did have a room and it was only $15.38US. We were grateful for a place to sleep as the boys had already fallen asleep in the car. Sadly we’re learning that with hotels in Mexico, you get what you pay for. The mattress that Kris and I tried sleeping on was horrible! The springs seemed to poke right through the mattress! Kris can pretty much sleep anywhere and through anything, but I ended up sleeping across the end of the boys’ mattress which was much more comfortable. Being right off the main road made for another noisy night with semi trucks driving by at all hours.
Lots of fishing boats!
My poor attempt to get a picture of the sky
We drove for a long time today, and this is how J fell asleep, with his foot up on Kris' driver's seat!
