On Tuesday Dec. 6th we packed up the apartment, loaded up the car, ran some last minute errands-which included one last goodbye to Ruth and Val at their gift shop, picking up some Cashew Wine for Kris' brother Danny and some hot sauce for us, then we got gas and that's when Kris noticed that our oil cap had disappeared. He figures that it probably shook loose during our trip out or back from Caracol. Thankfully the gas station guy referred us to an auto parts store just down the street and he had an oil cap that would work and it was only about $7.50US. We also took a trip out a dirt road to visit a hammock bridge. It goes across the Macal River. It didn't look very sturdy and I probably wouldn't have even gone out on it except that we watched a man ride a motorcycle across it. We walked out about halfway and were standing over the river. It was so beautiful!! It was after noon when we finally left San Ignacio only to hear Jonathan pipe up with "Mommy, I have to go to the bathroom." So we made another stop at our Belizean church in Georgeville and had everyone use the bathroom.

The drive through Belize was uneventful and we savored each moment of the beautiful land we'd come to call home over the last 2 months. At the border we had to pay to leave the country (weird I know), it was $37.50US for Kris and me, the boys were free. Then we drove through what is called "No Man's Land" a gap between Belize and Mexico- man was it packed with cars! At 4pm we arrived across the border on the Mexico side then we had to go in and fill out tourist forms, wait in a short line, & got our passports stamped...it was relatively painless, much quicker and easier than when we came in on the US/Mexico side. But then came the issue with declaring the car. We were told we'd have to drive to another building to get an importation permit for the 'Burb. Well we missed the turn the first time but a nice border official moved some cones so we could double back. Then Kris went up to the window and we waited and waited.... About 45 min later he came back with his permit and we passed through.

| Rainy Day! |
By this time it was after 5pm and we'd originally planned to stay the night in Chetumal, but decided to got a bit further toward Cancun. The weather wasn't too great, we had lots of rain and were so glad that Kris Rain-X'd the windshield before we left Santa Elena. Jonathan started complaining that his tummy hurt, then pretty soon Aaron said the same thing. Kris ate a sausage roll that we'd grabbed for lunch, that the boys had eaten also and he said his stomach started hurting too. So we had the boys drink lots of water and snack on some Cheerios. Aaron felt better pretty quick, while JJ only seemed to get worse. It was after dark when we came upon the town of Tulum and decided to stop there for the night. We found a pizza place and had Hawaiian and vegetarian pizza for dinner. Jonathan actually fell asleep at the table! We took the rest of our pizza to go and continued looking for a hotel. One place we stopped to ask the price said we'd better settle on something soon because it was nearing 10pm and hotel offices would be closing for the night. The very next place we found was called Villa Tulum. We paid $50 US for one room with a king bed which Kris, Aaron and I shared and a twin bed where we put Jonathan. He'd fallen asleep in the car soon after leaving the restaurant, but I woke him up and gave him some ibuprofen. After a long day in the car we all slept well that night.
